Precinct 4 Commissioner Sam Young directs the operator pushing the “Zipper” machine along Greg St. The “Zipper” breaks up the asphalt, chews it up and deposits it back onto the street.
The pulverized asphalt will be used to resurface the street. Reclamation work began this week on all or portions of five residential streets in the City of Mount Vernon. The work is a part of the city’s $70,000 overall street improvement program for 2014. For more details and a listing of the streets involved, see the April 10 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
