Early voting in three local elections will begin Monday, April 28. The elections are for the mayoral seat and two seats on the Mount Vernon City Council, three seats on the Mount Vernon Independent School District Board of Trustees, and a proposal for a school bond issue.
The school elections seem to be creating the most interest. The $14 million bond proposal that is on the ballot includes a competition gymnasium, renovation of district roadways and parking lots, renovating the existing band hall, and creating a science lab and classroom for the junior high. See the April 24 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for a listing of polling locations and time, and for a Candidate Review for contested City Council and School Board seats.
