Cyclist Ovard dies during Tour de Cypress Saturday

Retired Dallas fireman Gary Dennis Ovard suffered an apparent heart attack and became the first fatality to occur during the eight year existence of the Tour de Cypress event. Mr. Ovard, age 65 of Quitman, was riding in the 100K ride and was about four miles into the course when he collapsed about 9:20 a.m. For more information, see the Apirl 26 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic Herald.
