League of Honor

State standards met, technology needs detailed

Members of the Mount Vernon ISD Board of Trustees listened to several presentations during their regular monthly meeting on Monday, September 8. They heard how each campus and the district met the State standard for STAAR tests and heard requests for additional technology in the classrooms.

School board sets tax rate at $1.24874

The Mount Vernon School Board adopted a total tax ordinance of $1.24874 for 2014 in a special called meeting on Monday, August 25. That means a person with a $100,000 home will be assessed  $1,249 in school taxes.

Meredith Majors crowned 2014 Homecoming Queen

Meredith Majors is crowned by the  2013 Homecoming Queen Kristin Decker.Meredith Majors was crowned the 2014 Homecoming Queen during pre-game ceremonies on Friday, September 5 at Don Meredith Stadium.

High school announces homecoming queen nominees

Homecoming nominees for 2014 are front row, Kristen Blase, Jacey Wilhite, Meredith Majors, and Emma Strickland. Duchesses are Natalie Oud, Emily Olivas, and Rae Asay.Mount Vernon High School Homecoming Queen nominees and their court for 2014 were announced Wednesday, August 27 at the high school.

Homecoming Parade Monday

The annual Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally in downtown Mount Vernon is scheduled for Monday, September 1. Anyone interested in entering a float in the parade should contact Jenna Wilkins at the school at 903-537-3700, ext. 5506 and leave a message.

Eight new faces join Sulphur Bluff ISD staff

A total of 7 new staff members, and one returning administrator, were welcomed at Sulphur Bluff ISD this week. Mount Vernon’s Dustin Carr will serve as the district’s Interim Superintendent and as the High School Principal.
