Saltillo welcomes five new teachers

David SticklesDavid Stickles has joined Saltillo ISD as the superintendent/principal. Four other teachers have also joined the staff for the 2016-17 school year. See the August 25 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for background on each of the new personnel.

Four new teachers start at Sulphur Bluff

Kevin MathenyThere were four new staff members at Sulphur Bluff ISD to greet returning students last Monday. Kevin Matheny will teach U.S. history, world history, and geography at Sulphur Bluff High School.

Twenty-one new faces at Mount Vernon ISD for 2016-17

Twenty-one new faces were introduced at Mount Vernon ISD for the 2015-16 school year, including seven at the high school, two at the junior high, three at the intermediate school, and nine at the elementary. See the August 18 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more information about each of these new staff members.

Attendance at MVISD decreases from last year

Attendance for the first day of school at Mount Vernon ISD decreased by 24 students from the first day of classes last year. This is the second year that attendance has fallen at MVISD.

Cafeteria rates rise slightly

Mount Vernon ISD will participate in the free and reduced-price meals program again this year, and cafeteria rates have risen slightly.

Nine new faces greeted students as they returned to class at Winfield ISD this week.

Mount Vernon ISD campuses prepare for the first day of school

Staff members at the various campuses of Mount Vernon ISD are hard at work preparing for the first day of school on Monday, August 22. Buses will run their regular routes in time for arrival 10 minutes prior to the start of class.

Mount Vernon ISD will no longer stock over the counter meds

New this year, Mount Vernon ISD will no longer stock over the counter medications like Tylenol, Advil, Tums or allergy/sinus pills to dispense.

Refinancing plan, tax rate, budget, approved

Members of the Mount Vernon ISD Board of Trustees were unified in proposing the 2016-17 budget, the tax rate and moving forward in refunding the district’s bond debt in their meeting on Monday, August 8.
