Over $102,700 in scholarships awarded to Saltillo graduates

Senior students at Saltillo ISD received $102,758 in scholarship money during graduation ceremonies on Friday, May 27 at the school. For a listing of scholarships received by individual students, see the June 2 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

TEA waives third STAAR test for fifth, eighth grade students

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced last week that the third round of State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STARR) testing for fifth and eighth grade students was cancelled.

Talsma, Williams selected as FFA Foundation Ambassadors

Hylke Talsma and Brandon WilliamsHylke Talsma and Brandon Williams have been chosen to participate in the FFA Foundation Ambassador program. The Foundation Ambassadors serve as official liaisons to sponsors, special guests and dignitaries during the annual Texas FFA Convention set for July 11-15 in Dallas.

All State Cheer

Selena RomeroSelena Romero, a senior at Mount Vernon High School, was selected by the Texas Girls Coaches Association Spirit Committee as an All-State Cheerleader. She is a member of the 1A-4A Red team.

Summer Feed ongoing at MVISD

The summer feeding program at Mount Vernon ISD is now underway in conjunction with the annual summer school and will continue through Thursday, June 23.

Rosas, Ham earn high honors at Sulphur Bluff Junior High

2016 Sulphur Bluff Junior High Candidates for AdvancementDiana Y. Rosas and Eli Logan Ham will graduate as valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively at the Sulphur Bluff Junior High Advancement ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3 in the Sulphur Bluff High School Gym.
