Members of the football, cross country, band, cheer squad and volleyball teams were introduced at the event.

Board retains tax rate

The Mount Vernon School Board adopted a total tax ordinance of $1.17674 for 2013 in a special called meeting on Monday, Aug. 26. Members set the tax rate  at $.99024 for maintenance and operations.

Jr. High Cheerleaders attend camp

Jr. High CheerleadersThe Mount Vernon Junior High cheerleaders attended a cheer camp August 7-9 at Mount Vernon High School. The seventh and eighth grade cheerleaders worked on various cheers, chants, dances and stunts with the help of the high school cheerleaders. School attendance increases at MVISD

Attendance for the first day of school at Mount Vernon ISD increased by 21 students from the first day of classes last year. Enrollment at the area schools also increased except at Sulphur Bluff ISD.

Updated shot records needed prior to school

All students at Mount Vernon ISD must be up to date on their immunizations prior to the start of school on Monday, August 26. Updated shot records can be dropped off

Area classes resume Monday, August 26

Classes will resume at area schools including Mount Vernon, Saltillo, Sulphur Bluff, and Winfield on Monday, Aug. 26. Each school has set their own schedules for preparing their teachers and new staff.

Twenty-six new faces at Mount Vernon ISD for 2013-14

Twenty-six new faces were introduced at Mount Vernon ISD for the 2013-14 school year. There are seven new teachers at Winfield and six at Sulphur Bluff. See the Aug. 22 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for information about each of these staff members.
