Mount Vernon Destination Imagination teams compete at regional event

Third and Fourth grade DI teamTwo Mount Vernon Elementary School Destination Imagination teams competed at the regional event in Mesquite recently. One team finished in sixth place, and the other claimed 10th.

One Act Play public performance Sunday

A public performance of the 2014 Mount Vernon High School One Act Play will be Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. The group will present Unexpected Tenderness by Israel Horovitz. For more information, see the March 13 edition of the Mount Venrnon Optic-Herald.

Donald, Newby named Employees of the Year

MVISD employees honored at the school’s annual banquetDanielle Donald was named the Teacher of the Year and Samantha Newby was named Auxillary Employee of the Year at Mount Vernon ISD’s annual Employee Awards Banquet Tuesday, March 4.

Destination Imagination teams headed for state in April

Destanation Imaginantion TeamThe seventh and eighth grade independent Destination Imagination team won first place at the regional event and will be making their fourth trip to the state competition. For more information about the regional event and a listing of team members, see the March 13 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Mount Vernon fifth and sixth grade Destination Imagination group named Bonus Team

 fifth and sixth grade Destination Imagination teamThe independent fifth and sixth grade Destination Imagination team earned a third place finish out of 21 teams at the regional event. The Mount Vernon group was picked as the Bonus Team and will advance to state.

Lowry named to Basketball Academic All State

Grant LowryGrant Lowry, a senior at Mount Vernon High School, has been named to the Basketball Academic All-State team. To be considered, an eligible basketball player must be of good moral character, a senior, and have an overall grade point average of 92 or above.

Tigers beat Raiders, drop two at Quitman tournament

The Mount Vernon Tigers Varsity Baseball team wrapped up pre-district play by competing in the Quitman Bulldogs baseball tournament March 6-8. The Tigers  beat the Winnsboro Red Raiders 12-7 in their final game at the tournament.

Debate team claims third place in district

Kristen Blase and Jessica MinterKristen Blase and Jessica Minter captured third place at the district Cross Examination Debate meet in February. The finish qualifies the pair as alternates at the state competition March 10-11.
