School attendance increases at MVISD

Attendance for the first day of school at Mount Vernon ISD increased by 21 students from the first day of classes last year. Enrollment at the area schools also increased except at Sulphur Bluff ISD.

Wilson receives Shell award

Twenty-six new faces at Mount Vernon ISD for 2013-14

Twenty-six new faces were introduced at Mount Vernon ISD for the 2013-14 school year. There are seven new teachers at Winfield and six at Sulphur Bluff. See the Aug. 22 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for information about each of these staff members.

Board retains tax rate

The Mount Vernon School Board adopted a total tax ordinance of $1.17674 for 2013 in a special called meeting on Monday, Aug. 26. Members set the tax rateĀ  at $.99024 for maintenance and operations.

Jr. High Cheerleaders attend camp

Jr. High CheerleadersThe Mount Vernon Junior High cheerleaders attended a cheer camp August 7-9 at Mount Vernon High School. The seventh and eighth grade cheerleaders worked on various cheers, chants, dances and stunts with the help of the high school cheerleaders.
