Long takes top honors in Voice of Democracy contest

Kaden Long, McKay Patrick, and Hayley Tullis Kaden Long took first place in the local Voice of Democracy Speech Contest last week. The contest is sponsored annually by the Franklin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3992.

Tigers finish third at Rains tournament

FFA teams compete at State

Hylke Talsma, Natalie Oud, Jocee Neal, and Brandon Williams, members of the Mount Vernon High School  FFA Agricultural Advocacy TeamThe Mount Vernon High School FFA sent their Ag Advocacy Team and the Greenhand Skills Demonstration Team to the state contest at Sam Houston State University December 4-5.

Opening of new MVISD gym delayed

Workers began last week fitting together the more than 35,000 pieces of wood that make the floor of the new Mount Vernon ISD gymnasium.Mount Vernon High School Tigers fans will have to wait a little longer than originally planned for the opening of the new home for their teams. Officials are saying it will not be ready until Feb. 1.

FFA Greenhand Skills team to advance to State

Case Oud,  Harlie Robertson, Maddie Hatch, and Cade HymanThe Greenhand Skills Demonstration Team was also second place at both Area and District. Members are Case Oud,  Harlie Robertson, Maddie Hatch, and Cade Hyman.
