Million Word Challenge

Kayleigh Stevenson, Lauren Tran, Ben Minter, and  Max Rutledge have read one million words.Students at Mount Vernon Intermediate School have been participating in the Million Word Challenge reading contest since early October. Students were challenged to read one million words in AR testable books throughout the school year.

Therapy dog wins the hearts of elementary students

Tess is an attentive listener and never judges or corrects when struggling readers stumble over words.Who is the most popular member of the Mount Vernon Elementary School (MVES) staff? Apparently it is Tess, the English Lab who works as Amy Stewart’s partner in the counseling office. Tess is a therapy dog that Mrs. Stewart helped bring to Mount Vernon. School board considers calling for bond election in May

Members of the Mount Vernon ISD Board of Trustees agreed that they should go to voters with a list of needs. The group did not call a bond election, but ironed out a list of items that would be included when they do make it official early next year.

Students in Desirae Long’s sixth grade English Language Arts class have adopted a classroom goal of obtaining a class set of mini iPads. They have teamed with the website, Donors Choose, to obtain their goal.

Junior high one act play to perform for public Dec. 1

Mount Vernon Junior High One Act Play cast and crewMembers of the Mount Vernon Junior High one act play Liza and the Riddling Cave  will perform for the public at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 1 in the school auditorium.
