Uniforms debuted, tailgating party set

Mighty Tiger Marching BandMembers of the Mighty Tiger Marching Band proudly debuted their new band uniforms during halftime of Tigers vs Bulldogs game. They will be hosts for a tailgating party Friday evening prior to the start of the Mount Vernon versus Winnsboro football game.

Open house September 23

Mount Vernon Junior High and High School have set an Open House from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, September 23 on their respective campuses. For more information, see the Sept. 12 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Mount Vernon ISD district, campuses meet standard

Members of the Mount Vernon School Board heard a report from the Director of Curriculum, Carolyn Newsom, on student performance and accountability ratings at their monthly meeting on Monday, September 9.

Board retains tax rate

The Mount Vernon School Board adopted a total tax ordinance of $1.17674 for 2013 in a special called meeting on Monday, Aug. 26. Members set the tax rateĀ  at $.99024 for maintenance and operations.

School attendance increases at MVISD

Attendance for the first day of school at Mount Vernon ISD increased by 21 students from the first day of classes last year. Enrollment at the area schools also increased except at Sulphur Bluff ISD.

Wilson receives Shell award
