Teachers raise concerns at May board meeting

In a show of solidarity, approximately 25 teachers attended the May meeting of the Mount Vernon ISD school board to express their concerns about issues at the school.

Awards presented at Band Banquet

Band banquet award recipientsAwards and scholarships were presented at the annual Band Banquet on Thursday, May 8 in the Mount Vernon School Cafeteria. “I am proud of the band’s accomplishments this year. We advanced to our highest ranking ever and missed advancing to State by one place,” Band Director Tanya Eckstein told the crowd of approximately 150 people.

King named FCCLA Member of the Year

 Lizzie King accepts the FCCLA Member of the Year award from outgoing president C. J. Sparks. Lizzie King was named the Member of the Year at the annual FCCLA Banquet on Tuesday, May 6. She received the award for her dedication and hard work for the organization throughout the year.

Students honored at Rotary Academic Banquet

School bond passes by eight votes

Eight votes. That was the margin that passed the $14 million bond proposal for Mount Vernon ISD on Saturday, May 10. It will go down in the record books as the closest vote for a non-candidate election in MVISD history.

High school baccalaureate services planned

A baccalaureate service for Mount Vernon High School candidates for graduation will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 in the MVISD auditorium. A service for Saltillo seniors will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 18 at the Weaver Baptist Church.

Van Dieden named Honorary Chapter Farmer at FFA Banquet

Award recipients at the FFA BanquetArnie Van Dieden was named as the 2014 Honorary Chapter Farmer at the annual Mount Vernon FFA Banquet on Thursday, May 1 in the high school dining hall.
