Sgt. Tanner S. Higgins

Sgt. Tanner S. HigginsSgt. Tanner S. Higgins, age 23 of Yantis, Tex., died Saturday, April 14 in Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was buried in the Cypress Cemetery in southern Franklin County in services on Tuesday, April 24.

Gary Dennis Ovard

Retired Dallas fireman Gary Dennis Ovard suffered an apparent heart attack and became the first fatality to occur during the eight year existence of the Tour de Cypress event. Funeral services for Mr. Ovard were conducted Wednesday, April 25, at the First United Methodist Church of Quitman with Dr. Dick White officiating.
