Funeral services for Ruby “Polly” Woods Howell, age 85 of Mount Pleasant, were at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013 at Curry-Welborn Funeral Home with Bill Whitaker and Bill Barkley officiating.
Burial was in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park
Mrs. Howell was born on May 15, 1928 in Mount Vernon, the daughter of Harvey and Daisy McLemore Woods. She attended First Baptist Church and was a member of the Gideon’s International and the Mount Pleasant Art Society. She married Dewey Howell in Houston on June 14, 1963.
She died Monday, July 15 at Pleasant Springs Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, William Woods, Boyd Woods and Jack Woods; and two sisters, Almeta Smith and Virginia Sims.
She is survived by her husband, Dewey Howell of Mount Pleasant; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Ken Smith of Lufkin, Kay Price of Lufkin, and Tracey and Doug Rath of Golden, Colo.; a son, Mark Howell of Fort Collins, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wyoma Heston; her nieces, Linda Pepper and Ernestine Ray; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Sue and Alvin Pounds.
