Funeral services for Rex D. Matthews, age 73 of Mount Pleasant, were at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Sam Harvey Funeral Home with Jim Parker and Roy Willmon officiating.
Burial was at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery. Graveside Military Honors were provided by members of the US Air Force from Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, La.
Mr. Matthews was born in Jefferson, Tex., on March 12, 1940 to Charles Edgar Matthews and Mary Jeanette Riley. He married Bobbie Nell Clark on Dec. 15, 1961 at Macon Baptist Church in Franklin County. He was retired from the US Air Force and the Red River Army Depot and attended the North Ridge Church of Christ.
He died Tuesday, July 30. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Bobbie of Mount Pleasant; a son, Robert Doyle Matthews of Rockwall; two daughters, Tammy Winch of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Kristina Matthews of Camp County; a brother, Donald Ray Matthews of Mount Pleasant; three sisters, Judy Horn of Mount Pleasant, Jeanie Willmon of Mount Pleasant, and Janice Lancaster of Mount Pleasant; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kevin Matthews, Van Matthews, Curtis Willmon, Danny Jones, Jeremy Lancaster, and Jeff Lancaster.
