David Christie Tyrrell, Jr. died in his home in Saltillo, TX on August 11, 2013.
He was born on May 12, 1940 in Philadelphia to David Christie and Katherine Sample Tyrrell. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Roanoke, VA. where his father was in Naval Ofﬁcer Candidate School. In 1949 the family moved to Shreveport, LA. David attended Southﬁeld School, and C. E. Byrd High School graduating in 1958. He attended
Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and graduated in 1962 with a business degree. Because David had a passion for business and the stock market, upon graduation he went to New York to conquer the world he worked for advertising agency B.B.D. & O. At that time, he also served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. While living in New York, he married the late Evelyn Rachel Lancaster. David and Rachael relocated to Dallas 1965. They had two daughters, Katherine Desporte Tyrrell Boruff and Rachael Barnard Christie Tyrrell. David worked as a stock broker for Lehman Bros. and Dominick and Dominick. He left the sales end of the stock market and began to work in oil exploration. David came from a long line of entrepreneurs and invested in a wide array of interesting businesses. He never quit.
David married Margaret Smith Tyrrell in 1995 and inherited two step-daughters, Melna Lewis Bourland and Victoria Leigh Lewis. David and Margaret moved out of Dallas to their ranch in Saltillo, TX in 2005. David loved his cows, dogs and most of all his lake. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to duck hunt and fly fish in Alaska and for Tarpon off The Keys in Florida. David was an active member of the vestry at St. Philips Episcopal Church in Sulphur Springs, TX. Known as a man who had a heart of gold, he was always willing to help and give second chances, and unequivocally supported his family.
David Tyrrell is preceded in death by his wife, Rachael Lancaster Tyrrell, his father, David Christie Tyrrell, mother, Katherine Sample Tyrrell. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Margaret Smith Tyrrell, his daughters, Katherine Tyrrell Boruff and husband, Darren, Rachael Christie Tyrrell, step daughters, Melna Lewis Bourland and husband, Peter, Victoria Leigh Lewis; sister, Sybil Tyrrell Patten and husband, Fred, brother, William Sample Tyrrell and wife Marie; two grandsons, David Lancaster Boruff and Lucas Jackson Lewis, nephews, Oliver Debourton Jenkins and wife, Anne, Geoffrey Tyrrell Jenkins, David Farouk Tyrrell, and niece, Yasmin Alexis Tyrrell.
Services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Philips Episcopal Church, 1206 College St., Sulphur Springs, TX. In lieu of ﬂowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Philips Episcopal Church.
