Funeral services for Paul G. Carr, age 86 of Arlington, formerly of Mount Vernon and Winnsboro, were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 at the Pine Street Baptist Church in Winnsboro.
Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hopkins County.
Mr. Carr was born April 3, 1927 in Commerce to Earl Walter and Reginald Marie McDowell Carr. He served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. He married Wanda Fuller in Mount Vernon on June 2, 1946. He was a retired dairyman and a member of the Pine Street Baptist Church in Winnsboro. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Gus Garrison Masonic Lodge in Winnsboro, and numerous other lodges during his 65 years as a Mason.
He died on Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Texas Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Elwyn Carr and a daughter-in-law, Barbra Carr.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Carr of Arlington; his sons and daughters-in-law, Paul David and Charlene Carr of Pickton; Deryl Wayne Carr of Mount Vernon; Donald Earl Carr of Mount Vernon; his daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine Abston of Mesquite, Rita and Kevin Long of Mount Vernon; a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Patsy Carr of Flint; a sister, Mary C. Oakley of Vienna, Va.; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Brad Carr, Shane George, Dustin Carr, Kasey Long, Brantin Carr, and Paul David “DJ” Carr, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Master Masons of Texas.
