Funeral services for Bishop Marcus Ramsey, age 90, of Mt. Vernon will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Reagan and Rev. Jack Wallace officiating.
Pallbearers will be Mark Walker, Mike Ponder, Troy Jones, Jim Ramsey, Paul Hamilton and Larry Chaney. Honorary pallbearers will be Derek Watson and Delbert Logan. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Ft. Hood Army Color Guard at 1:00 at Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Monday, November 4, 2013, at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home.
Mr. Ramsey died Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant. He was born on August 4, 1923, in Ranger, Texas the son of Bishop Marvin and Roxie L. Kyle Ramsey.
Mr. Ramsey a was retired Telecommunications Electrician for AT&T Corporation, served in the US Army-Air Force during WW-II, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by his daughter, Janie Lynn Logan, and husband, Bo, of Mt. Vernon; sister, Maxine Hamilton, and husband, Delbert, of Carlisle, TX; grandson, Christopher Johnson, and wife, Lori, of Mt. Vernon; granddaughter, Stephanie Baughier, and husband, Barry, of Rockwall; great grandchildren: Zachary, Abigail, Camberlee and Olivia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ramsey was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Christine Ramsey, in 1994, his parents, a great grandson, Ramsey J. Johnson, on 8/25/2012, four brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Heart to Heart Hospice and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
