Joseph Preston Hogan, age 80 of Winnsboro, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at his home. Joseph was born on August 4, 1933 in Mt. Vernon, TX, to the late Joseph Pascal and Ruth Seay Hogan.
He grew up in Mt. Vernon until the age of 14 when he moved to Chicago, but he stayed in touch with his Mt. Vernon Class of ‘51 classmates and enjoyed their class reunions each year. He graduated from North Park Academy in Chicago. He married Joyce Louise Jacobsen in 1954. In 1959, they moved to Texas, where he worked for Texas Instruments as a computer Engineer. In 1991, he moved back to East Texas. He married Judy Valentine in 1995. Some of Joe’s interests in life were off-road motorcycling with his son, developing software, tracing family genealogy with his daughter and keeping up with friends and family via the internet. He also enjoyed communicating with people all over the world with his ham radio. He was preceded in death by his son, David Thomas Hogan; father, Pascal Hogan; mother and step-father, Ruth and Fred Peterson. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Judy Valentine Hogan of Winnsboro; three daughters, Judy Sweat and husband Rick of Bedford, TX, Carol Griffin and husband Mark of Olympia, WA., Sherrie Hogan of Sugar Land, TX; step- son, Nathan Valentine and wife Michelle of Dallas, TX; step-daughter, Amy Woodard and husband Lance of Greenville, TX; grandchildren, Sean Sweat, Kristen Saxton and husband Matt, Justin Griffin and wife Kelly, Travis Griffin, Jessica Cassity, Jaclyn Cassity; step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Valentine, Victoria Valentine, Max Valentine, and Olivia Woodard. A family graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Cypress Cemetery in Franklin County. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro for friends and family
