Graveside services with military honors for William R. “Bill” Whitaker, age 87 of Lake Cypress Springs, will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at the DFW National Cemetery with Rev. David Dotson officiating.
Mr. Whitaker was born Oct. 12, 1926 in Robinson, Tex. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy on the Destroyer USS Taylor in the South Pacific. He was a Baptist.
He died Saturday, Dec. 28 at Mission Manor Nursng Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Lee and Tressie A. Whitaker, an infant sister, Ruby Mae Whitaker, and a step-son, Gary L. Rainey.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene Whitaker; three sons and their spouses, William Whitaker, III and Janis of Vista, Calif., Russell Whitaker of San Antonio, and Billy N. and August Whitaker of Lake Cypress Springs; three step-sons and their spouses, Jackie Rainey of Aransas Pass, Ronald and Terri Rainey of Lake Cypress Springs, and Charlie and Sheryl Rainey of Dallas; a daughter and her spouse, Brenda and Thomas Spillane of St. George, Utah; four step-daughters and their spouses, Mary Doss of Kaufman, Linda Schlosser Rainey of Bryant, Ark., Susan and Norman Page of Rowlett, and Debora and David Fulce of Naples; a sister, Dorothy Wood of Corpus Christi; and many grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Purley Baptist Church or a charity of choice
