Mary Ellen JonesMary Ellen Jones, age 83, of Mount Vernon, passed away in the late evening hours of Friday, April 18, 2014 at Mission Manor Nursing Home in Mount Vernon, surrounded by her loving family.

  Mary was born on February 6, 1931 in Hopkins County, Texas to the late Leather Lee and Dora Cooper Kennemore.  Mary married the love of her life and best friend, Avis Wayne Jones, Sr., on January 1, 1948 in Franklin County.  After nearly 60 years of raising a family and a lifetime of memories, he preceded her in death on November 25, 1997.
Mary will be remembered as a homemaker but to those who knew her best know that doesn’t fully describe what all she did in her life.  She was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who could always be counted on for love, support and guidance.  Mary had a givers heart and was a past president of the Cypress Area Lion’s Club for nearly 30 years.    In her free time, Mary loved to paint portraits and landscapes, make ceramics, and work in her flower garden.  She was a member of the Baptist faith.  
Mary is survived by three sons, Avis Jones, Jr., and Beverly Logan, of Mount Vernon, James T. Jones, and wife Luann, of Pittsburg, and Gary Don Jones, Sr., and wife Laureen Reynolds, of Scroggins; eight grandchildren, Rachel Jones of Plano, Mia Jones of Mount Vernon, Mark Hammonds, and wife Danielle, of Gilmer, Lori Hooper, and husband Michael, of Pittsburg, James Andrew Jones of Mount Pleasant, Mary Tabitha Jones, and fiancé Stephen, of Golden, Gary Jones Jr of Mount Vernon, and Waylon Jones of Scroggins; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Kennemore of Scroggins; and by two sisters, Tommie Raines of Sulphur Springs and Frances Goldsmith of San Marcos.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters.
Graveside services for Mary Jones will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 21, 2014 at Providence Cemetery outside of Mount Vernon with Brother Garry Jordan officiating.  Mark Hammonds, Michael Hooper, Gary Jones, Jr., James Andrew Jones, Wade Logan, and Stephen Rutledge will serve as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held at 10AM, Monday morning, at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home.
