Funeral services for Larry Wooden, age 66 of Mount Vernon, were at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Providence Cemetery with Rev. Pete Adrian officiating.
Mr. Wooden was born Jan. 4, 1944 in Princeton, Ill., to Gilbert Wooden and Bernice Howell Wooden. He was married to Deborah Hawkins Wooden. At the age of 18, Mr. Wooden joined the Marines for four years. He was an owner/operator over the road truck driver for 29 years before opening Wooden Acres Storage and Wooden Acres Tool Rental, which remain today. He died Wednesday, July 14 at his residence. He had bronchial cancer in 2000 and then again in 2010 after being a survivor for 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Wooden of Mount Vernon; three brothers, Dennis Wooden, Leslie Wooden, and Paul Wooden, all of Illinois; a son and daughter-in-law, Cody and Cindy Wooden of Mount Vernon; a nephew, Joe Wooden of Cedar Hill; and a grandson. Pallbearers were Alfredo Guiterrez, Justin Pamplin, Joe Wooden, Ed Pamplin, Jerry Smith, and Cody Wooden.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon.
