Funeral services for Fannie Smith, age 77 of Mount Vernon, were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011 at Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. Burial was in the Union Hill Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Freeman officiating.
Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 25, 1933 in Bowie County to Rueben Hooper and Leller Rhea Hooper. She was a homemaker.
She died Monday, Jan. 17 at Mission Manor Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edgar Frank Smith, a daughter, Shauna Rose Simpson, four brothers, Sidney, Robert, Clifton, and William “Bodie” Hooper, two grandchildren, Tammy Lynn Merworth and Nathan Adcock, and a nephew, Howard Dale Smith.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Floyd and Cynthia Merworth of Simms and Donnie and Carolan Merworth of Maud; three sons-in-law, Sammy Semple, III of Houston, Mike Simpson of DeKalb, and Lanny Austin, Sr., of Longview; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Neal Adcock of Mount Pleasant, Linda Prichard of Mount Pleasant, Sumri and Matthew Roady of Pittsburg; a daughter-in-law, Selinda Marworth of Leesville, La.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Hooper of Simms, Vic and Nedie Hooper of Dallas; a brother-in-law, Howard Smith of Giddings; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Evoy Hanna of New Boston, Susie Hanna of Hooks, Betty and Rodney Clark of Hooks, and Mary Sullivan of Hooks; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
Pallbearers were Jason Adcock, Samuel Semple, IV, Lanny Austin, Jr., Ricky Gorton, Marty Merworth, and Sheldon Semple. Honorary pallbearers were Sean Semple and Hayden Simpson
