Funeral services for Odessa Jones, age 85 of Mount Vernon, were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at the Greater Ideal Baptist Church in Midland. Burial was in the Resthaven Memorial Park with Pastor Mack G. Jones officiating.
Mrs. Jones was born Dec. 25, 1925 in Ore City to Bunnie and Essie Mae Sirls Jones. At a young age, she united with the Snow Hill Baptist Church in Ore City. She graduated from Valley View High School and married Huey Lee Jones. She obtained her vocational nursing license at Odessa College in Odessa. During her career, she was employed by Medical Center Hospital in Odessa and Parkview Hospital - Midland. She retired from Midland Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Greater Ideal Baptist Church. Prior to her death, she was a member of the Abundant Life Christian Center in Pittsburg.
She died Thursday, Jan. 20 in Mount Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons, Theorthy, Huey Gene, and Learnie Jones, her parents, and sister, Bernice Hollins.
She is survived by her two sons and a daughter-in-law, Alfred Jones of Lancaster and Pastor Mack G. and Karen Jones of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Barbara Ann Harvey of Mount Vernon and Sharon Napier of Dallas; a special daughter-in-law, Helen Jones of Houston; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, L. J. Jones of Gilmer; several nieces and a nephew, and a host of relatives and friends.
