Funeral services for Lula Stevens Barnett, age 90 of Hagansport, were Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 at the Carroll Lehr Funeral Home in Athens. Burial was in the Malakoff Cemetery in Malakoff.
Mrs. Barnett was born Nov. 27, 1920 in Lueders to Ben Allen and Rosie Emeline Vaughn Stevens. She moved from Grand Prairie to Hagansport in 1995 and was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hagansport.
She died Jan. 29. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Edgar Barnett, a son, A. J. Barnett, brothers, Jesie Stevens, A. V. Stevens, a twin brother, Larence Stevens, and her sisters, Elnora Volentine, Lorene Gray, and three siblings who died in infancy.
She is survived by four daughters, Edna Sue Minyard of Grand Prairie, Mary Pennington of Talco, Rita Newton of Fort Worth, and Vickie Glenn of Daingerfield; nine grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Billy Pennington, Dustin Glenn, B. J. Newton, Ronnie Hall, Jeremy Swain, Mike Pennington, and Kyle Burrow. Honorary pallbearers were Tony Black, Colin Burrow, Carey Burrow, Matthew Gurley, Vernon Pennington, A. J. Newton, C. J. Newton, Gunner Swain, Mason Black, Ethan Hall, and Evan Hall.
