A graveside service with military honors for Charles Alton South, age 60 of Ravenna, Tex., was at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. A memorial service will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Creative Arts Center in Bonham.
Mr. South was born Nov. 16, 1950 at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas to Bennett Thomas South and Betty Ruth Mattingly South Sechriest. He attended Garland High school and married his high school sweetheart Deborah Ann Vaughn on Nov. 22, 1968. He was drafted into the United States Army and served two years in the 18th Military Police Brigade during Viet Nam.
He died Friday, Feb 25, 2011 at his home in Ravenna. He was preceded in death by his father, Bennett South, two brothers, Sammy Joe South and William Thomas South, a daughter, Cynthia Denise South.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debbie South of Ravenna; a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie ReNae and Paul Sulley of Ravenna; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Alton, Jr. and Kelli South, of Sherman and Robert Thomas and Stephanie South of Bonham; his mother, Betty Sechriest; a sister, Bennie Ruth South Riddle; seven grandchildren, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Betty Ruth Mattingly South Sechriest is the sister of Lelia Jordan Roberts.
