Funeral services for Dale Anderson Floyd, age 78 of Emory, were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Pilgrim Rest Cemetery #1 with Pastor Jeff Thompson and Bro. Royce Campbell officiating.
Mr. Floyd was born on Jan. 28, 1933, in Brownfield, the son of Gary Stephen and Mary Edna Nowell Floyd. He attended Mount Vernon Schools. He and Juanita Carolyn Arnold were married in Dallas on June 26, 1954. He was a U. S. Marine, serving his country in Korea from 1951 until 1954. He was a commercial and residential construction contractor. He constructed many facilities and homes in Rains County, including the Point Shopping Center, First State Bank in Point, and the Point City Hall He also did restoration on the Rains County Court House. He attended Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
He died, April 23 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Thressa Floyd.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Floyd of Emory; his sons and daughters-in-laws, Jon Carlo and Anna Floyd Leonard and Don Carlos and Mien Floyd of Garland; a daughter and son-in-law, Juanita Amelia “Suzy” and Ronnie Kile of Emory; his sisters and brothers-in-law, LeFreda and Richard Henry of Dallas, Glynna Gaylor of Westerville, Ohio, and Mary Thelda Hosenbeck of Albuquerque, N. Mex.; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Joyce Floyd of Lake Havasu, Ariz., Lynn and Jackie Floyd of Dallas; 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He also has a family member, Warren Penn of Mount Vernon.
Pallbearers were Jon Anderson Floyd, Thomas Alan Floyd, Jim Edward Weddle, Jack Anderson Weddle, Eron Linn Cavazos and Jason Le. Honorary pallbearers were Dale Anderson Floyd, II, “Andy” and Robert Curtis Floyd.
Memorials may be made to Fischer House at the V. A. Hospital on Lancaster in Dallas or Pilgrim Rest Cemetery #1.
