Memorial services for Betty Ruth Mattingly Sechriest, age 87 of Wills Point, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Caney Creek Cowboy Church of Van Zandt County.
Mrs. Sechriest was born June 1, 1923, one of seven children of James W. and Ida Savannah Hays Mattingly. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1941. She married Bennett Thomas South on April 16, 1941. They had four children. She married Clifford Griffis on Feb. 14, 1959, In 1981, she met and married Vearnard Sechriest. They moved to Willow Lake Estates in Wills Point. After retiring from Timberlawn Hospital in Dallas, she and Mr. Sechriest owned and operated East Texas Service of Wills Point.
She died May 24. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Florine Simms and Lois Banks, two brothers, James Lesley and Robert L. Mattingly, three sons, Sammy Joe, William Thomas, and Charles Alton South, a son-in-law, Harold Dwain Riddle, and a granddaughter, Cindy South.
She is survived by a daughter, Bennie Ruth South Riddle of Wills Point; a daughter-in-law, Debbie South of Ravanna; two sisters, Lelia Jordan Roberts of Mount Vernon, and Gertrude Banks of Winnsboro; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous neices and nephews.
