A life celebration for Mary Ruth Wooley Burford, age 84 of Mount Vernon, will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 29 at the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will precede the service at 1:30 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Burford was born Jan. 9, 1927 in Clarksville to Gordon and Veda Sivley Wooley. Over the years, she worked as a beautician, piano teacher, and tax preparer and bookkeeper. She was the founder of ETAB Bookkeeping. She and her husband, Jack, traveled three continents with four children in tow over the years. She was a patriot and a member of the Tea Party. She started playing piano at First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville at the age of 14 and continued to do so in various churches as they followed his job around the world.
She died Saturday, July 23 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack Burford of Mount Vernon; four children and their spouses, Larry Burford and Patricia Little of Dallas, Katherine and Arthur Cross of Mount Vernon, Diana and Paul Thomas of Winnsboro, and Kevin and Peggy Burford of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, Betty Andrews of Clarksville; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
