Funeral services for George Allen Beck, age 75 of Mount Vernon, were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011 in the chapel of the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
Burial was in the Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens with Rev. Brian Adair and Rev. Bruce Blackstone officiating.
Mr. Beck was born in Crosby, Tex. on May 20, 1936 to George Ernest and Teenie Edmonds Beck. He married Joan Elliott on May 25, 1957 in Hagansport. He moved to Mount Vernon in 1990 after living in Athens for many years. He was employed with the Cotton Belt Railroad for 25 years and was a member of the East Texas Baptist Men’s Association, the Disaster Relief Team and Builders Group.
He died Saturday, July 30 in Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Debbie Beck Trammell and Cindy Beck Smith, and a granddaughter, Erin Nicole Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Elliott Beck of Mount Vernon; a daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Francie Beck Fulgham; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Marshall Shurbet, John Campbell, Duane Anspon, David Maxton, Jim Alston, and Bobby Cooper. Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Trammell, Mike Overstreet, Vince Smith, Dana Bohlken, Gail Kerr, Cindy Maxton, Janice Cooper, Karen Haley, Harlen Cooper and Tim Evans.
