Funeral services for Charles Rex Adams, age 81 of Boerne, Tex. were conducted on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the First United Methodist Church in Boerne.
Mr. Adams was born Aug. 19, 1930 in Mount Vernon to Mae Davis and Grover Cleveland Adams. He graduated from high school at the age of 15 and helped on the farm for a year before enrolling at North Texas State Teacher’s College. He received a bachelor of arts degree and proceeded to the Rice Institute in Houston, where in 1951 he married a fellow student, Marjorie Jean Biggers.
He earned his Ph.D in catalysis and surface chemistry in 1954. During his summers at Rice, he worked for Shell Development. The couple moved to California, where he embarked on a distinguished career marked by several professional awards recognizing his scientific contributions. In 1967, he married his second wife, Marie-Claude Jumez. They were married for 35 years and traveled frequently to her home country of France. He was a bird hunter and outdoors man.
He died on Wednesday, Aug. 24. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Glen Adams, a sister, Virginia Grace Burns, and his second wife, Marie-Claude.
He is survived by a daughter, Melinda Gail Adams Luna; and three sons, Christopher Ray Adams, Dale Tryon Adams, and Eric Charles Adams; and 11 grandchildren.
