Graveside services for Elizabeth Rose “Betty” Conway Beck, age 92 of Mount Pleasant, were at 11:30 a.m.Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 at the Winfield Cemetery. Rev. Ken Dornhecker officiated the service.
Mrs. Beck was born on Oct. 9, 1919 in York, Nebr. the first child of James F. and Nellie Opitz Conway. She graduated from York High School in 1936 and from the University of Nebraska in 1941. She then taught school in the sand hills of Nebraska and did graduate work in Denver, Colo. She also worked as a medical social worker in Honolulu, Hawaii and later at the McKinney V.A. Hospital, where she met and married Dr. Ralph Beck in 1950. She taught in Winfield in the 1950s and also in Anna as a home economics teacher for several years. She had a strong religious conviction. She loved music, children, animals, and every aspect of nature.
She died Friday, Oct. 28. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, James F. Conway, Jr. and a sister, Cora Lee Conway Graf.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Beck Vance of Paris; a son, Jim C. Beck of Mount Pleasant.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Lamar County Humane Assoc., P.O. Box 8, Paris, Tex., the Cypress Basin Hospice, Mount Pleasant or a charity of choice
