Services for Betty J. Lunsford, age 87 of Mount Pleasant, were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Bates-Cooper Sloan Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Huffman officiating.
Burial was in the Snow Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Lunsford was born on Nov. 21, 1924 in Stephens County, Tex., to Ray E. and Lilly Belle Hickey. She received her bachelors degree in 1944 from North Texas State College and her masters degree in education from East Texas State College in 1952. She taught English in the Mount Pleasant School System from 1946 to 1983. She was a member of Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church.
She died Sunday, Nov. 27. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, George C. Lunsford, Jr. and her parents.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George C. and Reba Lunsford, III of Houston, formerly of Mount Vernon; a daughter Judy Lunsford Fernald of Houston; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerry Harvey, Jerry Boatner, Harry Lawler, Tommy Milam, Randy Presley, and Sam Russell.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, Titus County Hometown Endowment Fund, the Snow Hill Cemetery, or the charity of choice.
