Funeral services for Elva Irene Dikes, age 75 of Mount Vernon, will be at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Jack Wallace officiating.
Mrs. Dikes was born Aug. 28, 1936 in Shreveport, La., to John B and Elva Martin. She attended Tyler High School, Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Austin. She was a school teacher. She married Bill Dikes on Sept. 20, 1958. She was a member of the Rainbow Girls and was active with the Steven Ministries Program at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon.
She died Saturday, Dec. 17 in Mount Vernon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Retired LTC Bill Dikes.
She is survived by three children, Braxton and Ginna Dikes of New Caney, Tex., Deana and Richard Newcombe of Plano, and John Ramey Dikes of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, and a brother, Bill Martin of Lindale.
Pallbearers will be John Martin, Rhett Morgan, Richard Barrett, Mark Olinger, Richard Newcombe, and Damon Toffte.
