Funeral services for Noval Exel “Dot” Black, age 95 of Winnsboro, were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery in Franklin County with Larry Black, Scott Barkley, Kevin Roberts and Rusty Rose officiating.
Mrs. Black was born Sept. 2, 1916 in Black Oak, Tex., to James Henry and Roxie Lena Gossett. She was a member of the church of Christ. She played piano and taught music lessons to numerous students from her home and at the New Hope and South Franklin Schools.
She died Thursday, April 5. She was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Lloyd Black, her brother, George Gossett, two sisters, Mabel Thurman and Opal Attaway, a grandson, Bart Roberts, and a son-in-law, Roger Barkley.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Martha Black of Scroggins; her daughters, Joy Barkley of Burleson and Elceone and Johnny Roberts of Santa Fe, N. Mex.; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Mary English of Duncan, Okla., and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cloy and Elaine Black of Baton Rouge.
Her grandsons served as pallbearers.
