Funeral services for Nell Draper Clinton, age 86, were at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Harvey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pepper Puryear officiating.
Mrs. Clinton was born on February 15, 1926 in the Flora Bluff community in Franklin County, Texas to Sam Draper and Lois McDonough Draper who preceded her in death as did her stepmother, Ellen Martin Draper.
She died on Saturday, May 19, in Tyler after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Arlon Clinton who died in 2008.
Mrs. Clinton is survived by two sons, Gary and Wanda Clinton of Frisco, Texas and Mark Clinton of Holyoke, Massachusetts. She is survived by her brothers; Kent Draper and wife, Bette of Reedley, California and John Martin and wife, Jane of Mt. Vernon. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Jacob Clinton of Longview, Texas, John Clinton and Elizabeth Clinton of Denton, Texas and Kati Clinton Robson of Zurich, Switzerland. She is also survived by two great grandsons, Sam and Isaac Clinton of Longview, Texas.
Mrs. Clinton was a retired school teacher who taught English and Spanish in several different school systems. She retired as the high school librarian at Mt. Vernon High School after 33 years of public school service.
She was a member of the First Baptist church and the Gleaner’s Sunday School class in Mt. Vernon. After her retirement, she became the Church’s librarian and continued in that role for more than 20 years. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and pampering her cats.
Pallbearers were her grandsons Jacob and John Clinton, and her nephews, Mike Edwards, Mim Cargile, Marion Dodson, and Mark Olinger. Burial was in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the library fund at the First Baptist Church or to a charity of the contributor’s choice.
