Graveside services for Marjorie (Marge) J. Hayes Bedgood were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.
A memorial service was held at the Mt. Vernon church of Christ following the graveside service. Officiating was her son-in-law, Ron McCool. Mrs. Bedgood passed away July 3, 2012 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Waldo Funeral Home of Sherman, TX was in charge of the arrangements.
Marge was born on January 24, 1933 in New Martinsville WV to Ellis and Alberta (Flowers) Hayes. Shortly after her birth, Marge’s mother died, her older sisters Ruth and Opal helped to raise her. After graduating from high school, she moved to Columbus, OH where she worked as a bookkeeper at Lockbourne Air Force Base. This is where she met the love of her live, Bill, and six months later they were married on March 6, 1954.
As a military wife, Marge, Bill and the kids enjoyed exploring the world. They lived in a variety of places from Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas, California, Mississippi, to England, France and even Puerto Rico. She was always supportive of Bill’s career, being flexible about packing boxes, suitcases and loading the kids in the car for the next big adventure. She liked to tell a story about when she was in high school and had her fortune told at a fair. It said she would travel the world!
Marge was an active member of the Church of Christ, teaching children’s Bible classes for many years. She also worked as a volunteer with the schools where her kids attended. Her Red Cross volunteer work eventually led to her working as a Dental Assistant while she lived in Puerto Rico. Her home was always open and numerous families have spent time living with them while in the process of moving and getting re-established in their military moves. She and Bill also served as foster parents for several years.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jack, Howard and Ralph, sisters Ruth and Opal, and her loving husband Bill. She is survived by her children Laura McCool and husband Ron of Collinsville, OK, Jeffery Bedgood and wife Phyllis of The Colony, TX; Rebekah Story and husband Tom of Edmond OK and David Bedgood and wife Twila of Hoover, AL, grandchildren Robert Bedgood, Ivy Bedgood, Daniel McCool, Anna Ballay, Joshua McCool, Jesse Story, Lisa Cox, Will Story, Kenneth Bedgood, Kyle Bedgood and Caleb Bedgood, 14 great-grandchildren, brothers Junior and Thomas, sister Helen, brother-in-law Dale Bedgood and wife Betty of Commerce, TX, sister-in-law Carolyn Sue Beckett of Paris, TX and brother-in-law David D. Bedgood and wife Donna of Sherman, TX.
