Funeral services for Ollie Howe, age 92 of Mount Vernon, were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 at Harvey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Deport Cemetery with Rev. Tom Moore officiating.
Mrs. Howe was born Dec. 15, 1919 in Bogata to Tom Slaton and Lillie Wright Slaton. She was married to Emery Howe.
She died Friday, Sept. 7 in Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Mike Howe.
Mrs. Howe was a nurse for 37 years, 25 at Mission Manor and five years for Dr. Grant in Deport. She worked the night shift until 6 am and would then go to church on Sunday morning. She kept her church books for 37 years. At 15, she gave her life to the Lord.
She is survived by three grandchildren and their spouses, Rusty and Julie Howe of Cedar Creek, Randi and Gerald Bard of Forney, and Rachel and Justin Shaver of Palestine; two brothers, Mervin Slaton of Deport and Weldon Slaton of Paris; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Howe of College Station; and seven great-grandchildren, Robert Kenmore, Emily Howe, Natalie Howe, Haley Shaver, Alyssa Bard, Ashley Bard, and Michael Shaver.
Pallbearers were Glenn Cunningham, Roy Medders, Keith Medders, Dustin Medders, and Gary Rogers.
