Mary Jo Hite passed away on September 4, 2012, in Kaufman, Texas at the age of 94.
She was born on August 3, 1918 to Wylie & Lottie Harper Roberts in Mt. Vernon, Texas.
Mrs. Hite grew up in Mt. Vernon & graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1936. She attended nursing school at Methodist Hospital in Dallas. She married Harold Hite in Dallas in 1941. The couple moved to Brazil, Indiana where they reared their family & she was a member of the Berea Christian Church.
In 1978, the Hites retired to Saltillo, Texas where he died in 1984. She lived in Saltillo until she moved to the Mt. Vernon House assisted living in 2002. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon.
In 2005, Mrs. Hite moved to Kaufman, Texas to be near her brother and his family. She resided at Kaufman Health Care Center.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her infant sister Christine Marie, her husband, & her foster sister, Martha Lou Harper Underwood. Her children Patricia Jane, James Neal and Janice Eileen also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her brother, Wylie Roberts, Jr. & his wife Adeline of Kaufman, and her foster sister Dorothy Jean Harper of Arlington, Texas. Also surviving Mrs. Hite are her grandchildren Pamela Paulis & her husband Jeff of Pasadena, Maryland; Tammy Rothrock of Brazil, Indiana; and Gregory Hite & his wife Kumiko of Los Altos, California; her great grandchildren Rachel & Kyle Hilliard, Rebecca & Megan Paulis, & Noah Hite; two nieces Sherilyn Hatchel of Kaufman & Suzanne Brown of Weatherford; & numerous cousins in the Mt. Vernon area.
Mrs. Hite’s funeral was held on Friday, September 7, 2012, at 2:00 PM, at the Harvey Funeral Home with burial in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Rev. Jack Wallace officiated. Pallbearers were: Howard Harper, Glen McAuley, Bill Holmes, Greg Hite and honorary pallbearers were R.M. Harper, Shelby Harper, and Jerry Harper
