James E. Mays, 79, of Mount Vernon, TX passed away after a brief illness on October 26 in Tyler, TX.
He was born Oct. 6, 1933, in Hopkins County to Jim and Mayflower Mays, who preceded him in death. He was married for 50 years to Benita Banister who also preceded him in death. They lived in Dallas where he was a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Union for 56 years. He was a veteran of the US Army and was a 32nd degree Mason. He is preceded in death by 1 brother and 5 sisters. Survivors are brothers and sisters: John Mays and Gerald and Ann Mays of Saltillo, Modine Stretcher of Mount Vernon, Christine Kerr of Dallas, Jimmye and JB Garner of Saltillo, special friend Shirley
Maples of Mount Vernon and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside service at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28, at Mount Vernon City Cemetery under the direction of Harvey Funeral Home. Service conducted by Rev. Ken Clay. On-line condolences, samharveyfuneralhome.com.
