Funeral services for Ruby “Brown Sugar” Evans, age 88 of Mount Vernon, were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec.8, 2012 at the Mount Vernon church of Christ with Bro. Dwight Payne officiating and Bro. Richard Rutledge as eulogist.
Burial was in Denton Cemetery under the direction of J.C. White Funeral and Cremation Services.
Mrs. Evans was born Feb. 18, 1924 in Morris County to Sippy and Anne Brown. She received her education in the Morris County School District. In 1940, she met Mirrell Evans of Mount Vernon, and to their union three children were born. She accepted Christ at an early age and continued to serve Him, even during her illness. She was an active member of Mount Vernon church of Christ in Mount Vernon until her health failed.
She was employed at Pilgrim Pride for many years and in her later years was a private caretaker.
She died Friday, Nov. 30 at Dallas Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mirl Evans, a son, Leon Evans, a daughter, Edell Evans, seven sisters, Ruthie “Zula” Jones, Lubirda Davis, Lillie B. Mathis, Vanda Brown, Dollie Mae English, Dorothy Sue Lamb, Mary English, and three brothers, Herbert Hartfield, Arthur Hartfield and Crosby Hartfield, and two grandsons, Antonio Evans and Jonathan Evans.
She is survived by her daughters, Ruby Evans Smith of Seagoville, and Flindell Evans Arbuckle of Mount Pleasant; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
