A memorial service celebrating the life of Jerry W. Edwards, Sr., was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at the Sands Springs Baptist Church in Mineola.
Mr. Edwards died Friday, Jan. 4 after a short battle with cancer.
He has served as Executive Director of the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center since May 1999. Prior to this position, he was in nonprofit hospital management, including serving as adminstrator of East Texas Medical Center - Mount Vernon. Mr. Edwards received his bachelor of science degree from East Texas State University in 1975 with post-graduate studies in management. He was active in local and regional government, currently serving as Mayor of the City of Quitman. He previously served on the Quitman City Council for 13 years, served as President of the Wood County Central Hospital District Board of Directors, Quitman Independent School Board Member, served as President of the Wood County Child Protection Board, and chaired a standing committee with the East Texas Council of Governments.
He was currently serving on the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas Executive Directors Committee and two child fatality review teams. Mr. Edwards was honored by the Wood County Bar Association with the Liberty Bell Award for service to the community in 2001.
