Alamo Mission Museum’s Halloween costume contest infant through third grade winnersWinners in the annual Alamo Mission Museum’s Halloween costume contest were chose on Saturday, October 26. In the infant through third grade division, first went to Konnor Bogue, followed by Bentlee Smith, Gracee West, Jaedyn Clayton, and Lindsey Morgan.

Mount Vernon junior varsity Lady Tiger place second at tournament

The Mount Vernon junior varsity Lady Tiger volleyball team finished second at the Paul Pewitt Tournament last week. The team beat Paul Pewitt 25-11 and 25-10 and beat Atlanta 25-21 and 25-20.

County’s rollback rate less than last year’s tax rate

The rollback tax rate for Franklin County is $.462258, about .8 of a cent less than the 2012 tax rate, which was $.47. The good news for tax payers is that the total effective tax rate is $.425445, almost a nickle less than last year’s tax rate.

Youth Workshops offered at art center

The Franklin County Arts Alliance (FCAA) is offering a series of three Youth Workshops at no cost to participants. The series will kick off at 1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 27 at the Cultural Arts Center.

See You at the Pole

Approximately 60 students gathered at the Mount Vernon ISD flag pole on Wednesday, September 26 for the annual See You at the Pole event. Students led prayer and singing during the event and offered prayers for the school and fellow students.

Name the shuttle contest underway

Space Center Houston, the official visitor center for NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC), will launch a free, statewide contest to name the replica space shuttle at the center.
