Thurman Lee Johnson, 83, was born January 2, 1930 in Swan, Texas to Elvin Johnson and Eva D. (Farr) Johnson. He went to be with his Lord on April 23, 2013.
Thurman served his country in the Korean War from 1951- 1953 and was awarded the “Korean Service Medal” with two “Bronze Service Stars”, the “United Nations Service Medal”, as well as the “Overseas Bar”. Upon release from active duty he continued to serve his country as a reservist for 5 years.
Soon after returning from Korea he married his sweetheart, Stella Marie Bullard who was waiting for him to return. He then set out to become a loving husband and father. He worked in TV repair, farmed and raised cattle, in order to provide for his family. He later got into real estate and went to college, earning a “Real Estate Brokers” Diploma from “Tyler Junior College”
He served his church for 30 years as Deacon, Usher, Royal Ranger Counsel Member and much more.
He gave freely to those in need, never expecting anything in return. He was always willing to help anyone without having to be asked. Thurman Never met a stranger. He loved to sing about his Lord anywhere, anytime!
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Elvin & Eva D. Johnson, sister, Doris Sustaire and daughter Kaye Barnett.
He is survived by his Loving Wife of 60 years, Stella Marie (Bullard) Johnson, two daughters and their husbands Sarah & Randy Blanton of Hurst, Tx., Jena & Kevin Husketh of Tyler, Tx., Son-in-law Danny Barnett of Tyler, Tx., 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren as well as a brother, Sam Johnson of Red Oak, Tx. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday April 26th 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
His “Home Going Celebration” will be Saturday April 27th @ 2:00 P.M. Both will be at Victory Assembly of God 2915 SSE Loop 323 Tyler, Tx. 75701.
Interment will follow at Tyler Memorial Cemetery, 12053 State Highway 64 West, Tyler.
