Softball players celebrated

Senior Softball players and their familiesSenior members of the Mount Vernon Lady Tiger softball team were celebrated in ceremonies prior to the start of their final home game on Friday, April 22.

Saltillo runners advance

Five Saltillo High School track team members are advancing to the Regional meet set for April 29-30 at Tarleton State University. For details on how the athletes finished at the Area meet, see the April 28 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Lady Tigers defeat Daingerfield, headed for post season

Saltillo ladies qualify for Area

The Saltillo High School girls track team competed in the District meet last week, and several team members qualified to advance to the Area meet. For a listing of results from district and those advancing, see the April 21 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Athletes advance to Regional track meet

A total of 12 Mount Vernon High School track athletes is advancing to the Regional meet set for Friday, April 29 at Whitehouse. Those finishing in the top four places at the Area meet on Friday, April 22 earned the right to continue.

Tiger baseball blanks Pewitt

The Mount Vernon Tigers baseball team blanked Paul Pewitt 3-0 on Wednesday, April 13. The Tigers are now 4-5 in District 16-3A competition.  For details from last week’s games and individual statistics, see the April 21 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Whitfield pitches no-hitter against Pewitt

Madison Whitfield pitched a no-hitter against Paul Pewitt on Wednesday, April 13 to lead the Mount Vernon Lady Tiger softball team to a 10-0 victory. It would have been a perfect game
