Burd, Blase named football beau and sweetheart

Kristen Blase, David BurdDavid Burd and Kristen Blase were named the Mount Vernon High School Football Beau and Sweetheart during Senior ceremonies prior to Friday night’s game between the Tigers and the Prairiland Patriots.

Lady Lions runners headed to State

Saltillo Lady Lions cross country teamThe Saltillo girls cross country team has qualified to compete at the State Meet set for Saturday, November 8 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. This is the first time since 1992 that the girls team has qualified to advance.

JV white beats Cumby 16-6

The junior varsity White football team beat Cumby on Thursday, October 23 16-6. The JV Purple team fell 20-14 ti Daingerfield. For more information about these games, see the Oct. 30 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Saltillo Lions cross country teamThe Saltillo boys cross country team has qualified to compete at the State Meet set for Saturday, Nov. 8 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. This is the fourth time in five years that the boys have advanced.

Strickland, Wagner chosen as District 16-3A MVPs

Emma Strickland, Savannah WagnerSenior Libero Emma Strickland and Sophomore Outside Hitter Savannah Wagner were chosen as the District 16-3A Defensive and Offensive Most Valuable Players, respectively, for the 2014 season.

Junior high squads are District Champions

Seventh Grade District Champion Lady TigersThe seventh grade A volleyball team beat Paul Pewitt in the final game of the 2014 season in two sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-17. Both the Mount Vernon Junior High Lady Tigers 7A and 8A teams were undefeated for the 2014 season

Junior high plays Daingerfield
