Tigers tied for first in district

After defeating the Chapel Hill Red Devils 57-53 on Friday night in Tiger gym, the Mount Vernon Tiger varsity basketball team is tied for first place in District 13-3A with two games left in the season.

Tiger seniors recognized

Seniors Savannah Wagner, Bailey Floyd, Brett Thomas, Hylke Talsma, Dylan  Rogers and Marisa Alexander were recognized prior to the Tiger basketball game.The Tigers basketball team honored their senior members during pregame ceremonies. Four Tigers players, a statistician and a student trainer were recognized.

Savannah WagnerMount Vernon High School Senior Savannah Wagner has been named as an honorable mention middle blocker by the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State volleyball team for the 2016 season.

Floyd snags 500th win

Mount Vernon Lady Tiger basketball team, coach Brad Floyd center backrowMount Vernon Lady Tiger basketball coach Brad Floyd snagged his 500th career win last week when the team defeated Chisum 61-30 last Tuesday, January 17.

JV Boys third at tournament

The junior varsity boys basketball team defeated Como-Pickton 55-36 to claim third place at the Saltillo JV tournament on Saturday, January 21. For a listing of games played and individual scoring, see the January 26 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-herald.
