Girls win Sulphur Springs golf tourney, boys second

The Mount Vernon High School girls golf team claimed first place at the Sulphur Springs tournament on Monday, March 20.

All-Region, All-State honors announced for 2016-17 season

Top row: Alissa Hill, Rylee Keys, Sam Lowry, bottom row: Tyler Cooper and Brett ThomasAlissa Hill, Rylee Keys, and Sam Lowry were named to the Texas Girls Coaches Associations All State Team for the 2016-17 season, as well as getting nods from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Hill named District MVP

Alissa HillLady Tiger Alissa Hill was named as the District 13-3A Most Valuable Player. She scored 639 points during the 2016-17 season.

Tigers 2-1 at tourney, drop district opener

The Mount Vernon Tigers baseball team went 2-1 at the Quitman tournament last week and dropped their first district game to Cooper.

Lions are Regional Semi-finalists

The Saltillo Lions basketball team lost 49-47 to Graford in the 1A Regional Semi-final game on Friday, March 3 at Mansfield High School. They finished their season with a 20-15 record.

Tigers go 1-2 at Lone Oak tourney

The Mount Vernon Tigers baseball team went 1-2 at the Lone Oak tournament on Thursday and Friday, March 2-3. They defeated Community High School and lost to Rains and Caddo Mills. See the March 9 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for details and individual statistics from this tournament.

Cooper named District MVP

Tyler CooperTyler Cooper was named the District 13-3A Most Valuable Player for the 2016-17 season. He scored 424 points for the Tiger basketball team this season.
