An exhibit of works by American landscape painter Deborah Paris created on Franklin County's Daphne Prairie open in the West Gallery on the second floor of the Old Firestation Museum.  The paintings are a portion of the collection shown at Fort Worth's Madeline R. Samples Exhibit Hall at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas last Fall.

A reception honoring Ms. Paris to open the exhibit s scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 in the Franklin County Historical Association's museums in downtown Mount Vernon.  An "Artist's Talk" about her experiences in creating the series of paintings is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The local 900+ acres of the Daphne Prairie are among the approximately 2,000 acres of untouched native prairies known to still exist in the state of Texas.  Flora, fauna and wildlife found on the prairie are seldom found anywhere else than these  areas which never fell under the plow.
