The Veterans Salute program recognizes local area veterans the Saturday closest to Veterans Day in the Rose Mary Jennings Hall of the First United Methodist Church’s Family Life Center at 4 p.m. This year the event falls on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11.
The Veterans appreciation program is non-denominational and will honor veterans of all branches of the military, according to Bob Kerr, organizer of the event, which was founded in 2011.
The event will feature music and songs from local area a singers and songwriters. Songs and music will be interspersed with presentations from selected area veterans who distinguished themselves in service to their country, their community and their fellow veterans.  Clayton McGraw’s theatrical presentation of “This Ragged Old Flag” and the missing man salute from a selected veteran organization are a stirring reminder of the ultimate sacrifice many have made in service to their country. Jim Dial of Hopkins County will play “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes.
All veterans will be asked to stand and follow their respective service flag to the front of the room as the anthem from each branch of the military is played.
Everyone is invited to the Veteran’s Appreciation Program. Veterans and their families are especially encouraged to attend.
