Marshall, Stephenson to present program

Jean Ann Marshall and John Stephenson will present the program at the Franklin County Genealogical Society meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 16 at the Research Room at 110 E. Main St. Mrs. Marshall has written a publication Driving Mount Vernon and Mr. Stephenson will present some of the information from the publication as well as ghost stories associated with some of the old houses.

2009 Farmers Market opens

Farmers Market opensD. J. Roach visited with Willie Bane and Diane Newsome at the Franklin County Farmers Market last Saturday. He displayed a variety of custom walking sticks and canes and will even carve family trees on them. The farmers market will be a fixture on the downtown square every Saturday through October.

Horn quartet featured in concert

Horn quartet featured in concertThe American Horn Quartet will be featured in a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 8. The concert will be in the Mount Vernon Music Association’s Music Hall.

Local performers featured at Wood County Open House

Mount Vernon residents Jeff Hightower and Keitron Fountain will be the featured artists at the Wood County Justice Center Open House on Saturday, March 21.

Chamber extends nomination deadline

The deadline to submit nominations for Man, Woman and Agriculturalist of the year, as well as Franklin County Hall of Fame has been extended to Monday, March 9.

Special anniversary

Special anniversaryVelvin “Tooster” and Mary Bolin will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on March 6. A reception in their honor will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at the First Baptist Church.

Homemakers Extension to meet

The Homemakers Extension Education Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10 at the Senior Citizens Center. Michael Berry, local Agricultural Extension Agent, will present the program on Herbs/Spices.
Guests are welcome. Barbara Lawrence and Joanne Higgins will be hostesses for the event.

Burton designs play set

Brooks Burton, formerly of Mount Vernon, designed the set for Ordinary People, the latest production of Austin College’s Communication Studies Department.  The dramatic production  of  Ordinary People  is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, March 5-6, and at 2 p.m.  Friday, March 6.
