Farmer’s Market

Farmer’s MarketLaura Seabourne played the harp at the plaza Saturday, July 31. The Farmers Market is open every Saturday on the square in downtown Mount Vernon from 7:30 a.m. until sold out.  The entertainment typically starts at 8:30 a.m.

Greenwood meeting set

The annual meeting of the Greenwood Cemetery Association is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Greenwood Baptist Church.

Cherokee Program

Cherekee ProgramJoe and Kathy Copeland will present the Water Beetle Cherokee programs to weave history, music and tribal stories into presentations, which should be both entertaining and educational. The programs will be, Thursday, July 29 at no cost to the public. The programs are a collaborative effort between the Franklin County Historical Association (FCHA) and Franklin County Library. Two different programs will be presented one for children and a more expanded program for families. For more information, see the July 29 edition of the Optic-Herald.

Sing-a-long with story of nation’s past on Saturday

The Woods United Methodist Church Choir from Grand Prairie will be featured in presenting “Our Nation’s Past Through Story and Song: A Sing-a-long.” The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at the Mount Vernon Music Hall.

Marksmen Quartet to perform

The Marksmen Quartet, 2010 Dove Award nominees, will bring traditional mountain gospel music to the Calvary Baptist Temple at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1.

Puppet theatre performs Thursday

The Dallas Puppet Theatre group will perform at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, July 15 in the First National Bank Century Room as a part of the Franklin County Library’s Summer Enrichment Program.
